We originally had a Hot Springs Sovereign (sp?) which we had no issues with in the 10 years we owned it. 3 years ago we bought a Limelight Flair with the Ace Salt system, which honestly, the salesman talked us into. To date, we have had 3 circulator pumps, Jets replaced, heater replaced and are on our 2nd Salt cell as the first one was defective and luckily still under warranty at the time. Warranty now has elapsed. We have had nothing but issues with the Flair from the get go, constantly getting the fast blinking ("service needed") repair light. I clean the cell about every 4 days and replace the filter with a clean one about every two weeks. Everything is great for about 4 days and then it starts again. I am CONSTANTLY tending to the hot tub. I am putting dichlor in about every 3 days as the salt system is apparently not generating it's own chlorine despite multiple "user" setting changes and "Boosts". The salesman had assured us that it was one of the most maintenance free tubs. This could not be farther from the truth. We spend way more time tending to this one than we ever did to the Sovereign. We have been in repeated contact with both the dealer we bought it from and Watkins themselves. The dealer has responded appropriately but the problems, inconvenience, frustration and hassle is never ending. I honestly cannot NOT recommend this hot tub system !!!! Note: It said to contact Watkins before we posted this but of course their office is not open at this time.

Thanks for letting us know you're still having challenges with the water chemistry; we have not heard from you or the dealer since March 2013 when Watkins paid for the dealer to come to your home and work with you one-on-one re: water chemistry. Joe and his team at Islander continue to be available as needed, as does Watkins. I'll give Joe a call today as we do want the spa to be a source of pleasure for you.

Update.... 10 stars
Posted May 3, 2016
I've been meaning to update our review, as shortly after we wrote the review, we were contacted by the company that sold it to us and they removed the salt system and installed an ozonator. This totally changed everything. We have been enjoying our Flair now and have not had one service call since the conversion. We absolutely love it and couldn't have asked for better customer service. Wish I could remove the one star, but at the time it was a one star. It is now a 10+ star. Thank you for making this right!

Per my previous post....my husband called the number you provided with our serial number. Was told there was nothing customer service could do (really didn't get to explain the problem just that customer service couldn't help). Our local dealer no longer sells this brand because of the lighting issue. We have had to wait from NOVEMBER 2013 for the former dealer to assist us two weeks ago. There is obviously a defect with the lights however my hot tub is out of warranty and now will have to spend a lot of money for this defect.

Hi - Please contact Watkins Customer Service at 800-999-4688 x8432 to help troubleshoot the problem with your spa lights. If powering the spa down and then up again to reset the system does not resolve the problem, it may be a problem with the light controller, power supply or a cable connection. Please have your spa serial number available when calling in. Keith / Watkins Customer Service..

Thank you for providing feedback about the spa's lighting. I am sorry to read that the lights have been a source of frustration for you. I will send you an email directly and hope to hear from you with specifics about the spa, e.g spa serial #, install date, and I will then contact the dealer with that information.

Our lights have been replaced 3 times under warranty and 1 time out of pocket...in 5 years use. Last fix was last spring, and while they aren't out or splitting in half and floating around the tub right now, the same 3 that always go out initially before it gets bad, are currently cycling different colors than the rest. And now the light around the waterfall is no longer solid in color, but broken up like a rainbow. I purchased this model right as the line was very new. Seems the kinks are still not worked out. Very disappointed in the lights. We do have a couple jets that are sticking, but other than that we love the hot tub. The lights are a HUGE problem w/this brand. :(

Bought spa with salt system. Kept turning down output because chlorine level too high. Level never would back down. Death in family caused tub to out of use for a short while. Returned to find pump froze up because of chemicals and deposits around jets on stainless trim. Looks bad. Since then, pump has been changed and ion system added. Still. if I had known then what I know now, I would not have bought spa. The salt system was supposed to be the best route. Salesman talked to me like we had done no maintenance at all. He was wrong.

Thanks for the honest feedback about the spa, Dwight. With the unusually cold weather on the East Coast, it is not unusual to see higher electricity bills too. Keeping the cover on the spa when not in use and keeping the spa setting at your desired temperature - as opposed to lowering it at the end of each use - will help keep your energy bills as low as possible. Give your dealer a call if you don't have a winterizing blanket in the spa's equipment compartment - that will help conserve heat, too.

Expensive, But if You Use it Enough It Could be Worth It
Rob

PostedFebruary 17, 2014
This is an expensive spa compared to many on the market. But we're hoping the added expense will pay off in superior quality workmanship to where this spa will last us for many, many years and make it worth the expensive up front cost. We've now had our spa for about four months and have used it often. I feel we've used it enough to make a legitimate evaluation. So far, it's been very comfortable and relaxing. My wife and I have really enjoyed it overall. I have two cons to list. First, the water care can be a bit time consuming and/or frustrating to get the "readings" just right. The second con is that in the seated lounge position, with the jets on, the water "force" tends to push your body out of that position, to "float away." I've noticed if I have the water level high enough it barely does it, but with the level a bit lower, but still as high as it needs to be, it's much more noticeable and very annoying. But the disadvantage to keeping the level at a higher level is that my wife, who's much shorter than me, has her chin in the water so the water is really too high/deep for her. To remain in that lounge position with the jets on, you have to brace your feet and/or press down on the seat area with the palms of your hands to prevent from being "blown out" of that laying down position in the spa. Again, that's with the jets on. There's no problem of course with the jets off. I just think it may be an inherent design problem because it shouldn't cause your body to move from that position. You should be able to relax completely, without "bracing," in that position with the jets on and you shouldn't have to raise the water level to the point where it won't cause your body to "float away" from that position. Other than those two cons, the spa has been great.

Thanks for taking the time to provide a thoughtful, detailed review, Rob. Water chemistry can be a bit of a challenge for any spa owner as they become familiar with their source water and their chosen chemistry routine. I believe, with time, this "con" will disappear. We do occasionally hear from new spa owners who find staying in the lounge a bit challenging. Our engineering team is looking at what they might do to alleviate that concern. Happy Hot Tubbing in the meantime!

I have owned a dimension one spa in the past and didn't have a dealer where I now live so got a Flair. Not nearly as good. The spa is about 3 months old. You really only have seats for 3 people, but can not have the jets blowing on all three seats at one time. you have to select. The jets that rotate stick and don't rotate easily. It is definitely and OK spa, but I much prefer my old dimension one.

I see I'm not the only person that has trouble with the lights. Had my hot tub for under 4 and a years and have been having light issues for over a year. Have had various symptoms. First time I had 1 light go out. Had to drain it so the dealer repairman could change that 1 bulb. He said it had moisture in the bulb socket. On another occasion the lights were different colors. So again had to drain it so the dealer could change more than one bulb. Guess what? Moisture in the sockets. On another occasion The lights just wouldn't come on. They were out for some time and just came back on by themselves and then quit working again. Called the dealer and you guessed it, moisture in the sockets again. Then they quit working again and changed even more light bulbs. But on this occasion the repair guy called Watkins and was told to change all the bulbs. He also said the design had been changed and the lights were no longer in submerged light sockets. Anyway he didn't have enough bulbs to change them all but enough to get the lights back on. He said he had to order more bulbs and it would take a week to ten days to get them. That was almost 2 months ago. Now this time the lights wouldn't shut off so I had to turn of the power. When I turned it back on the lights don't work. In each case I tried turning the power on and off several times to no avail. I believe the lights were a design flaw and I'm not looking forward to changing bulbs non stop. The tub should have come with a lifetime warrenty on the lighting system. The tub works great other than the light problems. Contacted customer service via email 3 days ago with no response. If I had read the reviews before I purchased it I probably would have looked at something else.

I have arthritis and this hot tub has really made a difference in the way I feel, especially in the morning. I use it once or twice a day. I like the way you can adjust the water flow to make it more or less powerful. This spa has 4 places to sit and one spot to lay down. It literally massages every part of your back, neck, legs and feet. I bought a gazebo also. The gazebo has made it possible for me to use the spa at -20 degree temperatures. I was also very surprised how easy it is to maintain the water quality. Couldn't be easier! My family and I really do enjoy the spa and would highly recommend it.

I purchased the Flair model and am very impressed with the tub except for the issues I have had with the light system. They have never worked properly from day 1. I have had the technician look at them a a number of occassions however they are not able to fix anything and now the company that sold the tub, no longer stocks Limelight...... The warranty is over and I am left with no support and a lighting system that doesnt work!!
Would I recommend the LimeLight - not at this time

Salt water problems
Posted November 29, 2013
First ACE salt water cell failed after two years. After months of hassle got it replaced. Second one failed after 18 months, although it was supposed to have been an improved design. I don't recommend the salt water option for Hot Springs spas. Not only because of the failures, but lack of product support. I was very surprised about this, because my dealer said that Hot Springs supported their products second to none.

Have the Faire for a month, love it. Only one issue with ACE salt system, seems never generated enough FC to 5ppm, have to shock with sodium dichore all the time to get to that level. Some time i wonder that its best system of water care or i should have gotten another care system without having to pay $1,300 more plus more disappointed when a month later, dealer had a promotion free ACE the same day we got ours delivered. Overall, we love it, steady temperature, quiet, but don't know how much our electricity bill would be since we installed it. Happy to report it later, stay tuned. BTW, our sales rep, phil casperman, from american sales in carol stream is wonderful. His knowledge and customer service keep us happy hottubber.

Thank you for your feedback; we appreciate it! The spa looks great in your yard! :) Regarding the ACE system, 5ppm is the high side of an acceptable range for chlorine levels. When using granular chlorine, the standard range is 3-5ppm. With the efficiency of our ACE system, 1-2ppm is okay in most situations. If needed, contact us anytime and we can further assist. 800-999-4688.

Just changed the water... Now no lights again
Posted April 5, 2014
I just changed the water today and once again the lights are out. I will try switching it on and off several times to see if that helps and if not back to the dealer to have them see what is wrong.

I love my flair! Only thing that i could even complain about is that when the lights are on rotate the reds and purples flow very choppy and its kind of distracting when using the tub. Other than that have had no issues (have had it for 4 months now).
